Turkey is the fifth largest exporter of building materials
In 2021, Turkey was the fifth largest building materials exporter in the world, moving up four positions in the global rankings compared to the previous year. The industry’s export revenue was $30.8 billion in 2021, up 45.7% from 2020.
On the other hand, building materials imports amounted to $8.6 billion, making Turkey the 35th importing country in the world.
In 2021, the country’s building materials production grew by 19.6% year-on-year, driven by export demand, while the local market expanded by 39.5% to reach TL 569 billion.
“Global inflation and commodity prices, uncertainty in the local economy, and supply and demand imbalances in the real estate sector are the challenges facing our industry,” said Typhoon Küçükoğlu, Chairman of the Board of İMSAD.
The sector’s exports increased 29.3 percent year-on-year in April to $3.26 billion, the second-highest monthly figure on record.
